Luthrean B. Buckman was born on November 9, 1951, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, Esliva and Ernest Buckman. He was the 11th child of 12 children; he was raised surrounded by his brothers, Don, Roy, Carl, Earl, Ernest, Jr., Phillip, Eugene; sisters, JoAnne, Jeannetta, Opal, and Cynthia. During his childhood, he participated in the Battle of Quartets with the Four Chimes, which was Luthrean, his brother Eugene Buckman, nephew Howard Ryan, and cousin Delbert Crawford where they sang and entertained. He also performed with the Mile High Spectaculars in other events throughout Denver.
