Luther Irwin (L.I.) Kelley, age 88 years, from Canon City, Colorado, passed away, Saturday, November 24, 2012 @ 3:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas More Hospital in Canon City Colorado. L. I. was born in Lexington, Oklahoma on March 20, 1924, the son of Ray and Florence Kelley. L.I. attended Fowler High School where he graduated in 1943 with a focus in Math and Science. L.I. entered the Army Air Corp of the United States on April 28, 1943 and served in WWII until November 2, 1945. L.I. was a World War II POW and wrote a book,” World War II, from a Waist Gunner’s View of Stalag 17″, detailing his experience. On August 11, 1946, L.I. married Eva Fae Mays in Colorado Springs, Colorado. L.I. spent his working career at the Greeley Gas Company in Canon City, CO. He worked for the gas company for 40 years and began working on a street crew, worked in many different capacities and his final job was the Assistant Manager of the Canon City office. L.I. retired in March of 1986.
