Guadalupe “Lupe” (Ortega) Vargas, 90, of Belton passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at a Belton Care Facility.
Lupe was born on October 14, 1926 in Marlin, Texas to Timoteo Sr. and Susanna (Ybarra) Ortega. She was raised in Marlin and in Belton. Lupe married Santos Vargas, Sr. on May 18, 1947 in Belton and they were married for 51 years before he passed away in 1998. Mrs. Vargas worked at the River Forest Hotel in Belton and was a longtime member of the Mexican Baptist Church in Belton where she served on the Ladie’s Auxillary.
Lupe was preceded in death by her husband Santos, Sr., her parents Timoteo and Susanna, brothers Timoteo Ortega, Jr., Isaac Ortega, and Steve Ortega, grandsons Heath Vargas and Eric Watson, and sons-in-law Jimmie Watson, Jr., and Lannie Oldham, Sr.
She is survived by two sons, Santos Vargas, Jr. of Belton, and Paul Vargas and his wife Diane of Houston, three daughters, Linda Watson of Belton, Gloria Oldham of Belton, and Irene Stockton and her husband Larry of Athens. Also surviving are two brothers, Pedro Ortega and Abram Ortega of Fort Worth, four sisters Sista Saldana of Fort Worth, Annie Marcle of Fort Worth, Delores Nava of Itasca, and Janie Martinez of Belton, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
