Luis “Louie” Miranda

Louie was born June 21st, 1922 but as he grew so did his responsibilities. As young man he had stepped away from his education in exchange for work in order to help care his family of nine siblings.

The years sped by quickly and soon he met and married an intelligent young woman named, Mary Diaz, who had shared his life for sixty-six years until her passing in October 30, 2009. Together he and his wife raised two children, thus extending that strong sense of family values to their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In 1946 he entered the war and set his goals aside to defend his country by joining the United States Army, becoming a Corporal serving in Tokyo, Japan under the 808 Engineer Aviation Battalion. He became a naturalized citizen that same year, and later received an honorable discharge bringing home to his awaiting family as an American Veteran.

He then settled into a full time job as an employee in the City of Azusa working and befriending an entire community. On the weekend his love of music became public, he played in a Mexican band bringing extra income into his household and tirelessly lent his handyman abilities out to those less fortunate from his retirement to present.

In 1992, Los Angeles County honored him with the “Honored Citizen Award,” followed by recognition by the community with the “Azusa Golden Days Honored Citizens Award.” In 2002, he received a proclamation and American flag from the mayor and several council members. The accolades are numerous including as having a memorial brick in front the Azusa City Hall for war veterans.
