Luis Angel Gonzales, 22, of Belton, Texas passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Baylor-Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
Luis was born on May 22, 1997 in Temple, the son of Jose and Maria (Diaz) Gonzales. Raised his entire life in Belton, Luis was an avid sportsman where he played soccer for Belton High School. Upon graduation, he followed up on his passion of automotive mechanics and attended Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Waco, Texas to study engine repair while working full time in Belton. In 2017, Luis had the opportunity to return to his love of sports and worked in the athletic department of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor (UMHB), including during the years the Crusaders were NCAA Football Division III National Champions.
Most recently, Luis worked for Eagle Parts and Paint as a deliveryman and at his all-time favorite restaurant, Whataburger. Luis was a beloved and very involved member of his church, serving as a song leader at the Avenue T Church of Christ in Temple. Even though his years, post-graduation, Luis never lost his affection for Belton Tigers and UMHB athletics, often attending games in support of his past teammates and offering kind words of encouragement.
In addition to his parents, Luis is survived by his sisters, Angelica Hernandez of Henderson, Nevada, Maricruz Vodrey of Belton, Texas, and Linda Caro of San Antonio, Texas and his grandmother, Maria Pacheco of the State of San Luis, Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Juan and Santos Diaz of the State of San Luis, Mexico.
