LUELLA D. NORRIS

1919 – 2013

Luella D. Norris passed away on June 12, 2013, in Longmont, Colorado.  Luella was born on October 13, 1919, to Maggie and George Giesler in Walnut Grove, Minnesota.  She grew up on a farm near Lamberton, Minnesota, the sixth youngest of four brothers and three sisters.  After high school she went to stay with an older sister who had moved to Illinois and it was there that she met her future husband, Clair Norris.  They were married in 1942, just before Clair was shipped to the South Pacific to serve in World War II.  Luella then joined her mother-in-law and Clair’s family in Littleton, and she and her sister-in-law worked at Heckethorn Manufacturing Co. (also called Heco’s) for the remainder of the war.  She worked at manufacturing military projectiles.

After World War II, Luella and Clair settled near Willmar, Minnesota, where their two daughters were born.  In 1954 the family moved back to Littleton where Clair’s brother, Estel Norris, lived.

In 1956 Luella started working for the Littleton School District school lunch program. She worked until her retirement in 1984 and by that time was the manager of the lunch program at Goddard Middle School.  She was always proud of the fact that during those years the schools served a Type A lunch, “from scratch.”  She worked at several Littleton schools including Grant Jr. High, North Elementary, Euclid Jr. High and Goddard Middle School.  She made many lifelong friends during her school career.

Luella lived in the same home on the corner of Prince and Maplewood in Littleton until she moved to the Southview Apartments on Datura in 2000.  She lived there until September of 2012 when she moved to Sterling House Assisted Living in Longmont, near her daughter.  She is survived by her daughters Mary Lou Norris, Donna Mae Norris and son-in-law Roger Pratt, her grandchildren Eric Dare, Michael Pratt, Elizabeth Pratt, Jennifer Pratt Ahnert, Frank Kinnaman, Sarah Tabor, and 10 great-grandchildren.
