Mrs. Lucy Mae Carter Stewart was born September 10, 1930 in Courtland, AL to the late Marie Carter and Beotis “Mule” Hampton. She departed this life on October 28, 2016 at Health Center at Standifer Place in Chattanooga, TN.
Lucy was a feisty, caring and loving person. She was a very hard worker and retired from Erlanger Hospital. She said what she meant and she meant what she said! She was never the type to back down to anyone despite her small stature.
Lucy belonged to the Historical Grand Lodge, Morning Star Grand Chapter and Bethlehem Star Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She confessed Christ at an early age and was also a member of Antioch Primitive Baptist Church.
Lucy was preceded in death by: her parents, husband and a loving and caring step-mother, Luzaner Sandford Hampton; maternal grandparents, Will and Nancy Morris Carter; paternal grandparents, Tobe Abernathy and Rosie Lee Hampton; brothers, Willie B. Yarbrough and Claude E. Hampton Sr.
Lucy leaves a legacy of love and remembrance to: three sisters, Susie B. (Jasper) Rice of Hillsboro, AL, Queen Hampton and Ann Hampton both of Decatur, AL; five brothers, James Otis Hampton of Hillsboro, AL, The Reverend Matthew (Linda Faye) Hampton of Fairbanks, Alaska, Bruce (Doris) Hampton, Rufus (Faye) Hampton both of Decatur, AL, Leonard (Kathy) Hampton of Hillsboro, AL; one special loving niece, La’Shelle Hampton of Hillsboro, AL, two special cousins, Clifford Carter of Decatur, AL and Norris Wiggins of Courtland, AL; two special caregivers, Earlie James and Mildred Moreland of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
