  • Date Of Death: September 21, 2021

Lucille Petty Chamberlin passed away peacefully and returned to her angel band on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at her home in North Ogden. Her vibrant and musical soul will be deeply missed as she was constantly joyful, humorous and lighthearted.

Born in Castle Dale, Utah to Floyd and Emily Petty, she graduated from Weber High School and was crowned as FFA Queen. She met her eternal sweetheart Jim Chamberlin in North Ogden, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.

Her hands did much throughout this life whether it was the stroking of ukulele strings or of a paintbrush on canvas. She had a deep love of painting, the written word and music and was naturally gifted in all three.

One of Lucille’s favorite things to do was to sing and perform using her glorious alto voice. She taught herself how to play the ukulele and guitar and could pick out a three-part harmony to any song. Wherever she went, she picked up a musical instrument and was known to create singing groups with whoever would willingly or unwillingly join.

She was the driving force behind two singing groups: The Two Family Singers with her husband and eternal friends Tom and Carolee Oaks, followed by The Chamberlin Family Band with her husband, five daughters and a few sons-in-law. They performed all over Utah entertaining the old and young alike.

She happily shared her gifts and talents with others. Every grandchild had their own ukulele by the age of eight and were taught how to play. Her paints were always made available and her grandchildren knew where to go for help on art projects. Many Reflections Awards were won through the hands of Lucille Chamberlin.

She had the best laugh and taught us to laugh and sing like no one was watching. She loved good food and never apologized for it, even though she was always “on a diet.” She made a mean chocolate fudge and led us in carols to neighbors every Christmas.

Her beautiful gardens were also works of art and she will forever be known as the creator of the Tree Seekers group.

She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including Relief Society President and her favorite calling, the Junior Stake Conference Music Director, which included musical puppet shows. Her involvement and participation with Humor, Gotta Have It, brought joy and laughter to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Chamberlin, her son-in-law, Sam Love, her brother-in-law, Jim Gray, her great-grandson, Kaladin Shelton, and her parents, Floyd and Emily Petty.

Lucille is survived by her five beautiful daughters Robyn (Richard) Munro, Holly (Matt) Proudfit, Jayne (Burdell) Mulford, Kim (Scott) Killpack, Melanie (Kory) Shelton, her two sisters, Carmen Gray, DeeAnn (Bob) Talbot, 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
