Lucille Margaret (D’Orio) McCarthy, of Cromwell, beloved wife of John T. McCarthy for fifty-one years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 7th at Hartford Hospital. Born on November 6, 1933 in Kensington, she was the daughter of the late Vito Carmello and Carmella Millie (Cichetti) D’Orio. Lucille attended Middletown Schools and graduated from Middletown High School, Class of 1952. After graduation, she was employed at Hartford Electric Light Company. After taking time to raise her family, she worked at Cromwell Public Schools and later retired from Connecticut Hardware Supply Company in 1995. Lucille was a very caring, supportive, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She could always be found in her kitchen, cooking for all occasions, especially Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St. Patrick’s Day. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, making many books for her children and grandchildren and watching the New York Yankees with her biggest fan, her husband. Besides her husband, Lucille is survived by her daughter, Sharon and her husband, Bruce Aston and their daughters, Heather and Nicole of West Hartford; her son, Timothy and his wife, Pamela Sagliano and their sons, Michael and Thomas of Yonkers, NY, her son, Kevin and his fiancé, Lynn Ormsbee and Kevin’s daughters, Kayla and Kerri of Cromwell, and her son, Brian and his wife, Kelly and their children, Gregory and Abigail of Cromwell. She is also survived by her brother, John D’Orio and his wife, Janice of Litchfield and their three sons and two sister-in-laws, Sheila and Kathleen McCarthy of New London. She was also predeceased by a brother, Anthony D’Orio and her husband’s parents, John and Anna McCarthy. The McCarthy family would like to thank Dr. Robert Piorkowski, Dr. Richard Bevilacqua, Dr. Mark Daily, and Dr. Andrew Salner for the wonderful care they gave Lucille.
