Lucille Lewis Chapman, a native of Grove Hill and a resident of Hollywood, Calif., departed this life at her Hollywood home; she was 81 years of age. Lucille was born Aug. 21, 1939 to the late Charlie Lewis and the late Essie Mae Calhoun Lewis.
At an early age, Lucille joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grove Hill under the leadership of the Rev. L.J. Tolbert. Later in life, Lucille moved to Hollywood where she became a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of North Hollywood, Calif. An active member for 35 years, she was involved in the music ministry singing in the Circle of Faith gospel choir, the Sanctuary Choir, and the Rose of Sharon Women’s Chorus. Essie also participated in the Ruth Circle Women’s Ministry and served in many community outreach events. She loved to worship and praise God. She will be truly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three nieces, Valarie Lewis, Charlotte Lewis and Vicki Law; and one nephew, Victor Jerome Lewis.
Lucille leaves to forever cherish her memories a loving and devoted brother, Tommie Lee Lewis of Grove Hill; two loving and devoted sisters, Josephine (James) Jackson and Sherrie (Jessie) Caldwell of Lithonia, Ga.; two loving and devoted aunts, Carrie Jean (Willie D.) Laffitte of Grove Hill and Bobbie Jean Pugh of Mt. Vernon; with a host of nieces, one devoted, Kim Lewis Adams of Grove Hill, nephews, devoted cousins, other relatives and friends.
