Muncie-Luahna “Lu” Grace Winningham, 65, passed away early Sunday morning, July 10, 2011, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on, August 30, 1945, in Muncie, the daughter of Lewis C. and Esther (Dyer) Towles.
Lu is a 1963 graduate of Muncie Central High School. Ms. Winningham had worked as a Nurses Aide for the Randolph County Hospital, later as the Office Manager for The Gillespie Towers for several years and also Life Touch. She was certified with the Housing and Urban Development Authority (HUD). Lu was a member of the Memory Lane Car Club of Muncie and enjoyed knitting while lounging in her robe. Ms. Winningham was always involved with planning class reunions for both Central High School and Southside High School. Lu was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2011 Mother’s Day Award from WLBC.
Survivors include two daughters, Luahna “Lynn” Winningham Carter (husband-Dr. J.W.), Cincinnati, Ohio and Leonna G. Winningham Cross (husband-J. Mike), Muncie; one granddaughter, Lexi Kate Sterling, Muncie; two sisters, Vada Belle Goodspeed (husband-Glenn), Muncie and Crystal Dean (husband-Millard), Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews; her orange cat companion “Buddy”.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
