Lieutenant Colonel Thomas J. Miller, Jr, United States Army, Retired, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016.
Thomas Miller, Jr. was born on March 15, 1941 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Thomas and Mabel Miller. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Commission of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Serving as Captain in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces. While in the Army, he received his Master’s degree from Florida Institute of Technology. After proudly serving his country for 20 years, he retired as Lt. Colonel and proceeded into his second career of 20 years as an engineer with Sanmina-SCI in Huntsville, Alabama.
An avid sports fan, who was particularly fond of his Alabama football team, he was often heard shouting “Roll, Tide!” He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time fishing at his Lake Logan home in Tennessee. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to places like Key West, Florida and Gulf Shores, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; two step-daughters, Angie Pyles and Julie Folsom; and six grandchildren, Hailey, Madison, Brandon, Keira, Alexa and Daken. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Gail Atchison; his brother, Timothy Miller and Jeanne; and his sister, Melissa Miller. He shared a special closeness with his nephew, Ethan Miller; and with his step-daughter, Julie Folsom and grandchildren, Keira, Alexa and Daken. He touched many lives with his love, compassion and caring. We will miss him and will hold him in our hearts forever.
