Charles Rosvelle Smith

Together again… Charles R. Smith is dancing again with his lovely bride, Juletta, having completed a life well lived on this earth. He passed away on September 13, 2018. (Juletta predeceased Charles on July 16.) We have lost the most humble man that I know, a true gentleman, my father. He was strong in character, strong in his convictions, strong in his faith, and strong in his love for family. He consistently looked out for the interests of others, and having touched many lives wherever he traveled, he will be greatly missed!
Charles was born on March 26, 1929, traveling back and forth between Hallandale, FL, and family in the Bahamas through much of his youth. Even from a young age, he valued and focused his efforts on education, while always keeping a song in his heart and smile on his face. After completing his high school studies in Florida, Charles attended Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio and went from there into the Army, where he completed Officer Candidate School in 1953.
Charles always loved sharing the story of how he met and pursued his wife, Juletta, during his assignment in Ft. Bragg, NC. She was a teacher at a nearby college in Fayetteville when he saw her picture in the school paper. He pursued and finally met her, and they were married on November 23, 1956.
Charles served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, and then served in civilian roles with General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and Vitro Corporation in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Charles and Juletta had a daughter (Sydney) and three sons (Howard, Chuckie, and Chris). Even through losing all three sons, they leaned back into God’s grace and never faltered in their faith and love. They lived in Silver Spring, MD, from 1979 until recently, when they moved to Melbourne, FL, to be near their daughter. In addition to Sydney, Charles is survived by three grandchildren: Taylor Buck (MD), Bevan Rose-Smith (MA), and Gwyneth Rose-Smith (MA); sisters Hilly and Rose; and numerous extended family members—all of whom were held very closely in his heart.
