Lt. Col. J. M. “Pat” Patrick, U.S.A.F. (Ret), age 84, Edgewater, died Saturday at Hospice House, New Smyrna Beach. Born in Marianna and raised in Tennessee, Col. Patrick came to this area in 1975 from Ft. Lauderdale.

During his long and distinguished military career, starting in 1941 with the Army Air Corps, he served as a pilot in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. In a unique turn of events, he flew the Douglas C-47 both in World War II as a transport and in Vietnam for electronic surveillance. Other aircraft he flew were the F-94, T-33 and, for many years, the KC-135 airborne refueling aircraft. Over the years, he piloted many famous people, including Tennessee Senator and 1952 presidential candidate Estes Kefauver and, during the Vietnam War, General William C. Westmoreland.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; 2 sons, Jack of DeLand and Donald of Switzerland, Florida, and their mother, Betty Patrick of New Smyrna Beach; 3 step-sons, Harry Ashley of Hampton Beach, N. H., Dean Ashley of Fernandina Beach, and Maj. Paul Ashley of Warner Robins, Ga.; 3 step-daughters, Nan Schwartzman of Norwich Vt., Sue Gatley of Keene N. H., and Kim Murphy of Hampton Falls, N.H.; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle.
