Lowell E. Koontz, 75, of Bloomington, died on Wednesday at Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Lowell was born on January 8, 1934 in Monroe County and was the son of Roy E. and Jessie Marie (Christman) Koontz. He was a 1952 graduate of Bloomington High School and then served in the United States Navy.

He was a member of the 7th Fleet serving in the South Pacific during the Korean War on the USS Kearsarge. He was a pipefitter and a member of the Local Plumbers and Pipefitters #136. He was a member of the American Legion Burton Woolery Post # 18 , Stanford Masonic Lodge #173 and Stanford Baptist Church. Lowell loved life and lived it to his fullest everday and was never without a smile.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Carol (Barr) Koontz of Bloomington, one daughter Julie Koontz-McKinney (Steve McKinney) of Bloomington, two sisters, Barbara Schubnell and Shirley Grayson (John) both of Bloomington. His grandchildren Jessica and Mitchell also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
