Lowell Dean Smith of Senoia, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 3rd, 2016. Born to Albert L. Smith and Eolyne M. Smith (née Veal) of Goat Town, Georgia, “Dean” spent his life as a carpenter and a mechanic.

The third of four children, he grew up playing baseball and passing time in his grandfather’s country store. Dean married Lilla Jan Bowers in 1987, whom he met while working for Atlantic Southeast Airlines. He then became a transplant to Coweta County, Georgia, where he spent the remainder of his life. Dean became a member of White Oak ARP Church in Senoia, Georgia, taking pride in serving as a deacon as well as serving the community with his many trade skills. A lover of aviation, Dean enjoyed nearly twenty years working at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta. He performed all things maintenance for vehicles at the airport, ultimately becoming a supervisor and manager. The skills learned there translated to spending many hours in his “shop,” which he built himself of course. The shop was full of activity and saw Dean working on things for whoever needed them.

Dean is survived by his wife Jan of 29 years; children, Zach (Amanda) Smith of Columbia, SC, Ethan Smith of Newnan; grandchildren, Thomas and Samuel Smith of Columbia, SC; siblings, Denise (Terry) Smith Sternisha of Fayetteville, Gerald (Lesa) Smith of Louisville, Dale Smith of Sandersville; nieces and nephew, Kristi (Chris) Smith Kevern of Sandersville, Adam (Heather) Smith of Stone Mountain, Becky (Daniel) Smith Summy of Avera, and Brittany Smith of Louisville; parents-in-law Lisle and June Bowers of Senoia. He is also remembered by his many friends in the Goat Town and Senoia communities.
