Friends of Lovell “Bubble” Anderson may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the noon Friday funeral service at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 802 W. Garfield Ave. The Rev. Sam Frison of the church will officiate. Burial with military honors will be conducted by DAV Chapter 19 of Elkhart and will follow the services in the Prairie Street Cemetery Veterans Section.
He was born June 24, 1921, in Benton, Mo., to James and Fannie Anderson. He married Ruby Lee Jackson, who died June 18, 2005, in Atlanta, Ga. He then married Ruby Lee Williams in 1962. She died March 24, 1982.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty J. McClinton of Austel, Ga.; one son, Lovell Bates of Elkhart; two stepdaughters, Addie Mae Bates and Sandra D. Williams, both of Elkhart; one stepson, Stanley (Christie) McCray of Elkhart; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, William R. “C” Anderson of Elkhart; his stepbrother, Claude Whitner of Elkhart; three stepsisters, Janet, Mary and Barbara Whitner, all of Elkhart; and his caregiver, Gloria Sanders of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Arena Bolton and Fannie Mae Bates; two sons, Bobbie Joe Bates and Frank R. Williams; and one brother, Odell Anderson Sr.
Mr. Anderson formerly worked as a car inspector, starting at New York Central Railroad, then Penn Central, which became Conrail. He also formerly worked at Sollitt Construction Co. in South Bend. He was a member, served on the usher board and was a cook for Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
