Louise Smith Goodlow, 84 of Hillsboro, AL died April 8, 2017.
Mother Goodlow is lovingly remembered and cherished by nine children, 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four sisters.
Mother Louise Goodlow was born December 16, 1932 to the late James B. and Willie Dean Shackelford Smith, in Lawrence County, Alabama. She departed this life at her home on April 8, 2017.
Mrs. Louise Goodlow accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem P.B. Church. She later joined and served faithfully at David Temple P.B. Church as a member of the choir; kitchen committee; Sister’s Aide Society; President of the Usher Board and a member of the Mother’s Board.
She attended David Temple School through grade nine. She was exceptionally smart in math.
She was very strong in her beliefs and faith in God and believed in “Family and the Shackelford family legacy”.
She was a “Mama” to many and believed in disciplining as the “Bible” says. Sometimes a simple saying “Don’t be hard-headed” was sufficient. She spoke of greatness in young people and said “Now be that”. Her beauty was in the strength of faith and daily prayer.
She was employed for decades in domestic house services with families that were more like family than employers (many years for Ann Hensley, who remembered every birthday up to Louise’s 84th). Louise “weezie” retired after over twenty-five years with Dr. Lionel and Sandra Naylor.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Percy Goodlow, Jr; siblings, James Smith, John Smith, Marie Burks, Mildred Montgomery; great grandson, Jaylen Nnadi.
She leaves to remember and honor her legacy nine children (her pride and joy): five sons, Willie (Sylvia) Goodlow, Madison, AL, Thomas (Coretta) Goodloe, Trinity, AL, Terry (Florence) Goodlow, Decatur, AL, Todd (Angela) Goodlow Muhammad, Decatur, AL, Ronnie (Kalethia) Goodlow, Hillsboro, AL; four daughters, Oakey (Theodore) Terry, Chattanooga, TN, Deloris (Bill) Henry, Birmingham, AL, Jeanette (Robert) Peoples, Tanner, AL, Dorothy G. Kirby, Madison, AL; nineteen loving grandchildren; sixteen wonderful great-grandchildren; four sisters, Julia Selby, Martha Draper, Mary Petty, Pearl Russell, all from Chattanooga, TN; numerous beloved relatives and friends.
