Dr. Louise Moore Pruitt-Davis, a native of Prestwick, was born July 4, 1935 and exchanged time for eternity at the age of 85, May 20, 2021. On that day, Jackson lost a loyal daughter and a dedicated religious educational instructor at many local churches on a state and national level. Dr. Davis was a certified dean of Christian education.
The fourth child of the late Joseph Moore Sr. and Josie E.
A member of Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church where Dr. Stevenson E. Tullis is pastor, she served as senior advisor and dean of records for Mt. Olive Christian Leadership School. A former member of True Light Baptist Church in Prichard, she served for 46 years as director of Christian education, Adult Women Class teacher, administrative assistant, and trustee ministry secretary under Pastor Michael A. Howard.
Dr. Davis’ biggest passion was teaching the Word of God and being a mentor to many such as Carolyn Bonner, Annie Reed, Voncille Jackson, Joann Garner and Rosalyn Moore, all devoted.
She was the first black manager of Family Dollar Regional Stores and won many Manager of the Year awards. Dr. Davis as also recognized by the Mobile Baptist Sunlight District Association for her loyal and dedicated service to the Congress of Christian Education.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dr. Edsel Davis Sr.; four brothers, PFC. David Lee Moore, Samuel Taylor, Dan W. Moore and Joseph Moore Jr.; and two sisters, Sadie Jane Moore and Lular Mae Rogers.
She leaves to cherish her memories two brothers, Frederick (Josephine) Moore and Tommie (Marilyn) Moore; one sister, Lucinda Roscoe-Carr; one sister-in-law, Hannah Moore; with a host of nieces, one devoted, Roshorron Boykin; nephews, one devoted, David L. Moore; cousins, other relatives, colleagues, and many friends and acquaintances.
Service will be Saturday, May 29, 11 a.m., at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church, 105 Griffin St., Jackson. The Rev. Stevenson E. Tullis, pastor, will be the eulogist.
