Louise DiRuccio, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 27, at The Village at Mariner’s Point in East Haven. She was born August 21, 1922 in New Haven, the daughter of Alphonso and Matilde (Esposito) DiRuccio.
She was a graduate of Hillhouse High School and the New Haven State Teacher’s College ( now Southern Connecticut State University) where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Dante School from 1944-1949. After receiving her MA from Yale School of Education she served as an Assistant Professor of the SCSU Education Department and as Director of Alumni Affairs from 1949-1982, and was a member of the Administrative Emeritus Faculty. She served as the coordinator of SCSU’s Senior Citizen Program from 1982-1995. In 1995 she volunteered her energy and talent to Yale New Haven Hospital in the Public Relation’s Office, and was editor of the Auxiliary Newsletter for several years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and an emeritus member of the Phi Delta Kappa.
In September 1998 she traveled to Berlin, Germany to accept the Margaret Mead International Journalism Award from the American Medical Writer’s Association for her magazine article titled “Looking Forward to Old Age.”
She is survived by her sister Jeanne Schimmenti (100) of New Jersey, and her two nieces, Paula Krutzky of Berlin, Nadine Krutzky-Mitchell and her husband William of Springfield, VA, and her three nephews, Fred Krutzky and his wife Heidi of East Hampton, Frank (Chip)Schimmenti and his wife Diana of New Jersey and Victor Schimmenti of New Jersey and grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Carmel Krutzky and Evelyn DiRuccio.
