Louis V. Caruso “Lou the Barber” Caruso passed away peacefully at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point N.J. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015. He was a long time resident of Burlington before retiring to Sea Isle City, N.J. He was 91. Lou graduated from Burlington High school in 1942. He then served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He saw action in the China, India, and Burma Theater.

While there he helped to build roads, bridges, and airfields. He is best known as a barber. Lou owned his own shop in Burlington from 1954 until his retirement in 1999. He was the past president of the Burlington City Board of Health. Lou also cut hair at the Masonic Home in Burlington for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW. Lou loved his family and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles. He never missed a game on the radio or television and introduced his children and grandchildren to his obsession. Lou loved being down at Sea Isle City.

He also loved making pancakes for his grandchildren when they were there. He also introduced all of his grandchildren to the beach soon after they were born. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Vincenzo and Angelina Caruso; his wife, Ellen Pennisi Caruso; and his sister, Rose Datti.

He is survived by his children, Vincent and Beth of Burlington, Samuel and Norma Jean of Sicklerville, and Ellen Ramsey of Sea Isle City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren and Doug Carter of Williamstown, Cara Caruso of Burlington, Daniel and Nicole Caruso of Burlington, Sam and Courtney Caruso of Blackwood, and Anjelica Ramsey of Sea Isle City. In addition, he had five great grandchildren, Evan and Danica Carter, Lennon and Remy Caruso, and Max Vincent Caruso. Lou also is survived by his siblings, Jim (Rose) of Florence, Sue Coccia of Burlington, and Richard of Burlington.

Lou also had numerous nieces and nephews.
