RIZZO, LOUIS J. NHPD, RET.

Entered into rest, July 28, 2015, Louis J. Rizzo, 92, Retired NHPD and life-long New Haven resident; husband of the late Marie “Nancy” Carrieri; born in New Haven Sept. 23, 1922, a son of the late Gaspari and Maria Mauro Rizzo. Mr. Rizzo was a police officer an assistant dog warden for the past 15 years proudly serving New Haven Police Dept. serving the City for a total of 28 years before retiring in 1978. He was then employed as a security guard at Quinnipiac University for 15 years. A proud WWII decorated Army veteran he served as a Corporal in the 3890th Quartermaster Truck Company, known as the famed “Red Ball Express” , landing in Normandy on the 3rd day. A loving husband, father and grandfather Louis enjoyed following the UCONN Women’s Basketball team and was an avid NY Giants fan. He is survived by his sons Lucien and his wife Joan and Peter Rizzo, granddaughters Lynda Rizzo Stowe and her husband Daniel and Diana Rizzo, a brother Salvatore and his wife Alice , a sister-in-law Angelina Rizzo and his dear friend Yolanda Mazzola He was predeceased by sisters Mary Cataldo and Rose Degelitz and brothers Andrew, Leonard and Albert Rizzo.
