Louis Leland was born July 29, 1935 and died December 13, 2017. Lou grew up in a small town in Minneota, MN.

He went to school in Minneota, Missouri and Colorado, in his youth. He loved to play basketball in school and excelled in the sport.

At 17, he joined the US Navy and traveled around the world. He was in several places such as: Korea, Philippian’s, Panama, Japan and the Mediterranean countries, in the US he stationed in Long Beach, CA, Key West and Mayport Florida. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 23 years.

Lou’s second career was in law enforcement, he became Chief of Detectives in MN. During this time, he went to school to become a death investigator. During this time period in his life he coached the Amateur baseball team of Cold Springs, MN and they won in the state tournament. He loved golf and shared the love of the game with all his friends in Deming, after he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sybil Saling and Lloyd Benajmin Leland, wife, Phyllis Survis and 1 stepson, David Harris. He left a ton of people who will greatly miss his wise cracks and sense of humor. He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Wallraff, son, Louis B. Leland Jr., daughter, Christine Mucurio. Grandchildren, Crystal, Douglass, Kartrina and Joshua; Great-grandchildren, Maella, Belen, Maria and Freya Rose; Great-Great-Grandchild, Jackson.

He died cracking jokes, just as he lived with a smile on his face.
