Louis James Cappella Jr., 86, of Plymouth, MA passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2021. Born on December 1st, 1934 to the late Esther (Giammarco) and Louis James Cappella Sr. He was the loving husband to the late Patricia (McGrath). Louis was predeceased by his sister Rita Fontes, and is survived by his sisters Joan Dubbert, Linda Pimental, and brother Daniel Cappella. Louis was the beloved father to Catherine Quinn and husband Brad, Carollee Quintal, Louis J. Cappella III, and Patrick Cappella and wife Heather. He was the cherished “Papa” to his grandchildren Haley Kent and husband Kevin, Benjamin Quinn and wife Chelsye, Michael Quintal, Nicholas Quintal, Taylor Cappella, and “Papa Louie” to his great grandchildren, Madison, Wesley, Giovanni, and Charlee Jo.Louis served our country in the United States Navy on the USS William R. Rush from 1954-1958. He continued to serve and protect as a well-known and respected member of the Plymouth Police for over 30 years earning the rank of Sergeant in 1974. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Anna Maria College and then his master degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University in 1973. During his life, Louis was an avid outdoorsman, wood craftsman, artist, gardener, chronic Monopoly cheater, and hunter who frequently traveled to Maine to enjoy the outdoors and share a hunting camp with cherished relatives and friends. He coached Plymouth Youth Football for many years and was inducted into the Plymouth Youth Football Hall of Fame. He was an aviation enthusiast and pilot. In his retirement, Louis was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed his many hobbies, such as making wine from his homegrown vineyard. He enjoyed hosting large summer cookouts with his wife, Patricia, for family and friends at their Chiltonville home, building ice skating rinks for his children and grandchildren, listening to his records, and most of all, sharing a spaghetti dinner with his family as they were his absolute pride and joy. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Louis’ family would like to extend special thanks to Plymouth Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for caring for him in his final days.
