Mr. Garvin peacefully passed away from this life into God’s loving arms on Monday, November 21, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dean Garvin; daughter, Lynda Norris; grandson, Walter Garvin; and son-in-law, Steve Ashburn.

Louis was born in Newton, Mississippi and grew up in Laurel, Mississippi. He moved to Texas as an older teenager and graduated from High School in Cameron.

Louis enjoyed a life-long career working for the railroad. In 1942 he began as a locomotive fireman and was promoted to engineer within three years. He enjoyed being able to fulfill his childhood dream to work on the railroad. He loved the challenges of the job and especially the camaraderie among the Santa Fe Family.

Louis served his country in the United States Army. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, the Medal of Good Conduct, the Victory Ribbon and an Overseas Service Bar. He received an honorable discharge in February, 1946 at Fort Sam Houston.

Louis and his wife Dean were members of Anchor of Hope Church in Belton where they were fortunate to have many wonderful friends. Being a part of the family of God and this local congregation were such great blessings to them.
