Louis Benedict d’Aquin, age 89, known by family and friends as “Doc” or “Louie” and to his grandson as “Papa,” died April 10, 2011 of old age. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lydia Sue Radescich d’Aquin, married July 30, 1947, died April 9, 2010. He selflessly cared for her for most of that time. His only daughter, Lydia Susan d’Aquin, died in 1997 in New Orleans. He is survived by his grandson, Dr. Randolph Louis Roig of New Orleans, whom Papa frequently called his “favorite grandson,” while raising Randy through early life on through college, medical school, and in New Orleans on July 30, 1921, son of Louis Achille d’Aquin and Eva Theresa d’Avignon. His aunt Anna d’Avignon was a constant family companion, especially after his mother died while he was only twelve. He is preceded in death by an older brother Warren, who died in early childhood and by his sister, Mary Anna d’Aquin Rose Basile of Arabi.
