Lorraine A. Sanford, 81, of Plainville, went home to heaven peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 31, 2011.
Lorraine was born on August 17, 1929, in Fitchburg, MA, and relocated to Plainville upon marrying the love of her life, Robert Sanford, with whom she shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage. Lorraine worked for the Plainville school system for many years as a playground and cafeteria monitor at the Frank T. Wheeler elementary school, after which she worked in retail for Mars and Ames stores. She went on to work for GEM Manufacturing, retiring from there in 1997. She was talented at crocheting and was well known for her beautiful afghans. Her “can do” spirit had her constantly tackling projects at home that others would never consider attempting. She leaves her family with many cherished memories, and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Gus Colantonio of Wethersfield; her grandchildren, Armando, Melinda, and Angela Colantonio of Wethersfield and Debra McFadyen of North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Lois Nilson and her husband, Dwight of Bristol; her brother-in-law, Weston Sanford and his wife, Clara of New Britain; along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Bertha Atwood and her daughter, Jeanne Pittman.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain, for their care and attention during her time there.
