Lorna Schenk, San Franciscan native, died peacefully in her home in Oakland, CA on Tuesday, October 5th, after a long illness. She was surrounded in the love of her youngest daughter, Kate, her sister, Chris, and her long-time caregiver, Gina Ortins.

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Schenk and her parents, Bruce and Mary Sutherland. She is survived by her daughters Shannon Schenk, Erin Young and her husband Andrew Young, and Kathryn Schenk. Loving grandmother to Cole and Reed Young. She is also mourned by her sister Christina Sutherland Mockler, brother-in-law Rick Mockler, and nieces Molly and Rose Greer.

Lorna was born and raised in San Francisco before settling for her adult life in Bloomington, Indiana. She was a proud graduate of Mercy High School Class of 1966, and Santa Clara University Class of 1970 where she followed in her father’s footsteps as a Bronco. Following graduation, she served her country in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), like her father. She later attended Indiana University for her Master’s degree, where she met and married Mark and they raised their three daughters. Years later she returned to school for her third degree to become a Registered Nurse in her forties.

Lorna enjoyed gardening, canning, and reading. She also was an avid Mahjong and Scrabble player, and a loyal Jeopardy viewer. Amid rapidly declining health she returned to California to be cared for by her daughter and sister in her final years. She enjoyed sitting by the Bay, having easy access to good crab once again, and not having to deal with brutal Indiana winters.
