Loretta Marie Vahey, 84, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, in Des Moines, IA being forever 21 on the 21st day of the 21st year, in the 21st century.
Loretta was born August 21, 1936, in Chamois, MO, to Louis and Helena (Stephan) Benne. She married George Vahey, Sr. on August 1957, divorced 1980. She worked as a Business Manager for St. Peter’s Catholic Church for over 30 years, retiring in 2003 and was a very active member of the congregation. She volunteered for numerous events and community activities. Loretta had a lifelong love of needlework, crafts, gardening and flowers along with a lifelong fear of water and snakes, “to say the least”.
Loretta is survived by her Daughter, Karen (Todd Ham) Vahey of Winterset, IA; Four Sons, George Vahey, Jr. of Des Moines, IA, Ron (Sheila) Vahey of Roswell, GA, Mike (Nancy) Vahey of Cave Creek, AZ, Mark Vahey of Des Moines, IA; Grandchildren – Stacy Vahey, Kristie (Matt) Waugh, Austin Vahey, Rachel Vahey, Drake Vahey, Clint (Autumn) Czizek, Amber Czizek, Kaitlin (Mike) Malchow, Danielle Vahey, Josh Vahey and 6 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Father, Louis E. Benne, Mother, Helena Florentine Benne.
