Ms. Loretta Anderson Burgess of Mt. Rainier Maryland, transitioned to her eternal rest on April 30, 2020. Ms. Burgess was a native of Suffolk, Virginia and the daughter of the late Henry Clay Anderson and Octavia White Anderson, of Thomasville GA and Suffolk, VA respectively.
Education
Born in Suffolk, VA on July 30, 1939, Loretta was a graduate of East Suffolk High School class of 1956. She received her undergraduate degree in Business Education from Virginia State University and a Masters degree in Business from Central Michigan University.
Career
Ms. Burgess was a direct marketing entrepreneur, a realtor and a dedicated educator in the Prince George’s County Public School System. She achieved many professional and personal milestones, but her greatest accolades would be as a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and family member.
Family
Loretta married Calvin Burgess in 1965 and although the marriage ended in divorce they committed to co-parenting their two sons Kelly and Vincent.
Her memory will be carried on by her two sons, Kelly Scott Burgess of Mt. Rainier, MD and Vincent Corey Burgess of Richlands, NC., her daughters-in-law, Lucille Pamela Daniels-Burgess of Mt. Rainier, MD and Jennifer Kays Burgess of Richlands, NC, her grandchildren Anderson Burgess, Matthew Chandler, Olivia Burgess, Sierra Sigmone, Elliott Burgess, Austin Burgess, Benjamin Burgess, Kenneth Burgess, Lark Burgess, Vincent Burgess and Miles Burgess. She was also blessed with a great grandson, Adrian Cole Burgess.
She is survived by three sisters, Octavia Ruffin of Sufflok, VA, Ora Artist of Cleveland, OH and Marian Wilson of Great Falls, VA. and a nephew, Tommie (Tee) Lawrence Jr. She is remembered by two former daughter-in-laws, Dawn Maria Popham of Hughesville, MD and April Brown of Largo, MD. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special remembrances to her friends Ariva Boyd, Iris Ellis and Caroline Davis as well as her baby girl, Ingrid Junor (Gonsalves).
She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Lawrence of Suffolk and three brothers, Henry Clay (A.C) Anderson of Cleveland, Elliott Anderson of New York, NY and Clarence Anderson of Hyattsville, MD.
