Lorenzo Bayless Anderson, (aka L.B., Lorry, Wally) born in Bradenton, FL on the 26th of November 1928, entered into eternal life the morning of the 23rd of August 2021, at the age of 92 in Spring, TX. As a young man, he attended Mellon High School in Palatka, FL where he was captain of the football team, played football at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, and received a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville, class of ‘53.
Prior to graduation, he married Merlene (Clayton) in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1949. L.B. was employed by Dillingham Corporation, traveling globally, within the commercial general contracting industry. Some of his travel took him to Europe, the SE Pacific, and Asia. As his career flourished and his young family grew, their residence moved from central Florida to Fairbanks, AK, then to Kwajalein (U.S. Marshall Islands), to Honolulu, HI, and back to AK. His remarkable career reached its pinnacle as owner and president of L.B. Anderson Construction in Anchorage, until the time of his retirement.
Even to his final days, L.B. was known by all to have had a computer-like mind; able to make computations in his head that others would need a calculator to solve. An attribute that was almost legendary within his circle of professional peers. When he was not leading the construction of government-contracted jobs like national security facilities in Kwajalein, the first highway on the island of Oahu, schools on the North Slope, or hospitals within the remote Alaskan Bush, L.B. enjoyed snow skiing, golf, racquetball, motorcycles, sporting events, staying informed (& commentating) on current events, and discovering the latest in personal computing & technology.
He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where his most recent service was as a leader within his ward’s high priest group. At the time of his passing, L.B. and Merlene had 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn six children, Bruce, of Kent, WA, Renee (J. Scott Kearby), of The Woodlands, TX, Scott and Rod, both of Gilbert, AZ, Dirk (Darlyne), of Spring, TX, and Del (Staci), of Litchfield Park, AZ.
L.B. was predeceased by his parents, George William Anderson and Hilda Bell (Tilton), seven brothers, Glenwood, Reginald, Vernon, George “Jack”, Udell “Sam”, William, Wesley, and three sisters, Edith, Phyllis, and Hilda. Spouses Merlene, Petronella (Van Zonneveld), & Parnell (Boomer). Also preceding him in death are two precious daughters, Baby Ellen & Carrie Lee.
