Lorene Mary Hester, 88 of Lakeland, died March 23, 2011 due to lung cancer. Lorene was born April 27, 1922 in Berlin, GA to Sanford and Eva (Strawder) Hires and moved to Plant City as a child. She was united in marriage on June 6, 1941 to her husband, James, who preceded her in death in 1990. She is also preceded in death by her brother and two sisters. Lorene was an Army wife, who’s life was always on the move. Including 2 duty stations in Europe. She finally returned to Lakeland in 1964 and made Lakeland her permanent home. Lorene was a homemaker who had a passion for creating beautiful garments. She was also accomplished in quilting, crocheting, cross stitching, knitting and painting. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Russ) Hall of Charleston, S.C. and Janie (Jerry) Hallman of Lakeland; her brother, Lessie Hires of Lakeland; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
