On January 2nd, Lorene Howard went to be with her Lord after a brief illness.

Lorene was 86 years old and celebrated her 69th wedding anniversary with the love of her life, David Howard, on December 22nd. She was born in Missouri to W.C. and Nora Mae (Robinson) Jernigan on October 29, 1934. She was the youngest of 9 children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Lorene met her husband at Custer’s Last Stand and they had a loving and fulfilled life always putting others first. Together they built a wonderful family with three sons, Robert Howard, Mike Howard, and Stan Howard, as well as Sandra (Dave) Julius, who was like a daughter to her. She worked for Marsh Grocery for 25 years. They were blessed with four grandchildren, Courtney Howard, Sara (Danny) Beck, Lauren (Zane) Cooper, and Michelle Howard. They had six great-grandchildren, Mike Howard, Emma and Ella Beck, Olivia Howard, Birkely Cooper, Skylar Howard, Andy Beck, and Owen Beck. Tiffany (Mark) Hartman, who gave her the nick name of Rene, Amber Julius, and Ashli (Nick) Michael were like her grandchildren. Joan Theurer was a lifelong friend that she cherished and loved.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; Wilbur and Elizabeth Howard, her in-laws that were like second parents to her; as well as her son Mike Howard. She had special relationships and was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Karen Roush, and her sisters, Mildred Boots, and Mavis Deane.

Lorene was first and foremost a loving person to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as friends and family. She had a special relationship with the Lord and her faith was unwavering. She was a member of Hanfield United Methodist Church and for many years organized the Passover meal. She met every challenge in life with a can do spirit, overcoming a bilateral amputation, and gave it her all to overcome obstacles along the way. She never gave up in her zest for life and her love of family and friends. She always made sure that everyone had a warm coat, and with her twinkle in her eye gave unselfishly to others.
