Mr. Anding died at his home Sunday, September 27, 2015.

Loran was born on April 19, 1937, on the family farm near Albion, the son of Lester and Florence (Stalker) Anding. He was raised on the farm and attended rural school prior to graduating from Albion High School in 1955.

On December 26, 1958, Loran married Margaret Royer at the South Branch Lutheran Church of rural Albion.

Following graduation, Loran joined the US Navy along with 17 other classmates on June 1, 1955. Loran was in aviation support aircraft maintenance. He served at Naval Air Stations in Hawaii, Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, Memphis, TN, and Rota, Spain and San Diego, CA. He was twice deployed to Vietnam where he served during the Tet Offense at Da Nang and Cam Rahn Bay. He later became an instructor. Loran was on board the USS Kearsarge, when Wally Schirra and Gordon Cooper were recovered following their flights into space in the Mercury program. Loran completed his career on board the USS Constellation receiving his honorable discharge on June 3, 1974.

Loran and his family returned to Nebraska and made their home in Norfolk. He was employed by Elkhorn Tractor as the parts manager for fifteen years. Later, he farmed with Dallas Hoff.

Loran had a passion for trap shooting which began when he was serving in Rota, Spain. He was a member of the Norfolk Gun Club and later the Northeast Nebraska Shooting Association. He participated in several national shooting competitions. He, also, enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Fairplay Golf Course where he played in the men’s league. And in his younger years he liked to hunt.

He and Margaret enjoyed travelling and wintering in Hawaii.

Loran is survived by his wife of 57 years; their children and their spouses– CMsgt (retired) Douglas Anding and his wife, Sarah, of Fountain, CO, and Donna and SFC (retired) Daniel Murray, of St. Robert, MO; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Russell Anding and an infant brother, Robert Anding.
