Lonny was born March 19, 1940, in Carroll, Iowa, to Warren and Maurine (Massman) Bartels. He married Janet Mason on September 24, 1961 at the Presbyterian Church in Westside, Iowa.
Lonny was an accountant for Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield, retiring in 2001.
Lonny is survived by his wife, Janet Bartels, his children, Patricia (Rob) Atkinson of Salt Lake City, UT, Janette (Skip) Frey of Swisher, IA and Brett Bartels of Urbandale, IA; his mother, Maurine Englehardt, three half sisters, Paulette (Arnie) Luetje of Omaha, NE, Kathy Bartels of Anchorage, AK and Kristi (Gerhard) Epke of San Anselmo, CA; two half brothers, Gregory Bartels of St. Paul, MN, and John (May) Bartels of Norfolk, VA and 10 grandchildren, Eric Reeves, Jessie Wilson, Caleb Reeves, Mather Reeves, Shania Bartels, Cosette Reeves, Danielle Frey, Alaric Bartels, Tala Bartels, and Remy Bartels; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Bartels and step-father Gus Englehardt.
