Lonnie Guderjahn, age 54, died on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA, after a long struggle with colon cancer.
Lonnie Roger Guderjahn was born on October 1, 1966, to Roger and Cecelia (Huard) Guderjahn in Grand Forks, ND. The family moved to Hoople where he worked at his family’s grocery store. In 1984 he graduated with honors from Valley High School. He attended the University of North Dakota (UND), where he was a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon. In 1990 he graduated with a Bachelors in Computer Science and also Applied Mathematics. Following graduation, he worked at Principal Financial Group for 30 years as an Analyst 3. Lonnie was married to Shari Hrdina from 1991 to 2004 and to this union two children, Claire and Noel were born. Lonnie married Rhonda Goedken on August 8, 2009, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines, IA, where he was a Third-Degree Knight.
Lonnie was an avid camper, active in Boy Scouts where he was Scoutmaster for Troops 92 and 51, and he served as president of the Heart of Hawkeye Good Sam’s camping group. He enjoyed exploring various state parks and looking at the bison and elk in Granger. Earlier in his life, he was active with bicycling, both by taking his kids in the Burley as well as completing RAGBRAI. He was a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do and played volleyball often.
Lonnie is survived by his wife Rhonda; two children Claire and Noel; mother Cece Guderjahn and siblings Wanda (Vincent) Langerud; David Guderjahn; Rick Guderjahn and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
