Mr. Lonnie James “Jim” Fields, III, 49, of 1842 Broadway Drive, Graham died at the Hospice Home on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 7:30 a.m. after a 35 year battle with an undiagnosed neurological disease.

A native of Scotland County, NC, he was the son of Lonnie J. Fields, Jr. and Frances Kiser Fields, who survive. He attended schools in Laurinburg, Aberdeen and New Bern and graduated in 1985 from Graham High School. Following high school, he graduated with an Associates Degree in Art from Alamance Community College. Jim was a train and airplane enthusiast who enjoyed going to see the Blue Angels. He traveled many of the scenic railroads in the United States. He was a member of the Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina Historical Society. As an artist, he loved to paint pictures for friends and family. He enjoyed gospel music and was an avid Elvis fan. He was active in New Bern, NC with the Cub Scouts and other local activities. Jim traveled extensively in the United States with his family and also traveled in Mexico and Canada. Jim was a charter member of New Covenant Fellowship.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Kimberly Fields Parker and husband Brian of North Wilkesboro; two nieces, Courtney Shea Parker and Hayley Virginia Parker; and nephew, Lance Alexander Parker. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cordelia Faye Fields.
