Lola Mae (Sopora) was born in Venita, Oklahoma, on February 1, 1930, to the parentage of Oscar and Elzora Morgan. “Sopora” & ”Grandma Penny,” as she was known to all. She grew up in Colorado and remained a pillar in the community. With the help of Yvette (Yaira), her great niece’s genealogical research, Sopora’s descends from her maternal 4th great grandmother Mesh born Oromo People, Ethiopia Africa of 1685. She would always open up her home to those in need. She led an exemplary life, one that touched many lives. She had this bright light that you could see in her at all times; she would light up any room she entered. Her humor was out of this world, and she knew how to turn your sadness into laughter just by the witty things she would do and say. Lola grew up with a Godly life and served the Lord. She would always live the way of treating others with love and respect. She would always promote family coming together with love, kindness, generosity, and respect. Lola Mae’s greatest joy was family, and even strangers became family, calling her Grandma Penny. She was one of the Juneteenth Dolls founders, which brought her great joy, and she would be right alongside them walking in the Colorado State Fair Parades, not missing a beat. She enjoyed going to yard/garage sales and, on occasions, a day at Cripple Creek. She was a wife, mother, grandma, and a friend to many, but also so much more.
