Lola J. Rowe, 79, of Elkhart, passed away at 7:21 a.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Elkhart to George E. and Sarah J. (Whitecotton) Copenhaver. She married Jack T. Rowe on Sept. 15, 1950. He died in Elkhart in 2004 after 54 years of marriage with Lola.
Also surviving are a daughter, Debra J. Rowe of Elkhart; a brother, Bill (Delores) Copenhaver of Mesa, Ariz.; granddaughters Lisa (John) Adkins of Elkhart, Sarah (Brent) Houser of Topeka and Cheri (Jon) Riggs of Bristol; and great-grandchildren J.D. and Tyler Riggs, Kyla Melfi, Jordan and Jenna Adkins, and Hope and Miles Houser.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents and her husband, are daughter Diane M. Yost and brother Gordon Copenhaver.
Lola retired in 1993 from the Selmer musical instrument company in Elkhart after serving there as an inspection supervisor in the flute department for more than 30 years. She was an avid world traveler, and although she had visited many places including Hong Kong, Egypt, Sweden and Austria, her favorite trip was just last year, when she spent her birthday with her brother, Bill, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
She loved cooking, shopping, garage sales, having breakfast with her friends, playing cards and bingo. She enjoyed being with people, as well, and touched the hearts of just about everyone with whom she came into contact, especially the doctors and nurses who cared for her in her final days.
