87, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015, at the Terraces of Phoenix. Lois was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a woman of strong Christian faith, who was beloved for her compassion, volunteerism and quiet acts of kindness and generosity. Lois Jane Newton was born on August 25, 1928, in Moosic, PA. She met the love of her life, James Arthur Pyne Jr., in the fifth grade. Lois and Jim were married in 1950 and were inseparable for 63 years until Jim’s passing in 2014. They have three children, Carollynn Pyne Davis, David Lawrence Pyne and Robert Allen Pyne. Their children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren were the lights of Lois’ life. She enjoyed sewing special outfits for the children, preparing lavish family dinners and sharing her love of fine art and Boston terriers. Lois was the daughter of an electrician, whose generosity and kind acts toward his neighbors became known to his family only upon his death. His example had a deep impact on Lois, who spent her life helping those in need, including elderly and homebound adults, disadvantaged and abused children, and neighbors suffering hard times. Lois was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Terraces in 2009 for serving as a children’s reading tutor, helping run the country store, photographing and writing biographies to introduce newcomers, and serving as secretary on the resident council. Professionally, Lois was a registered nurse and an alumnus of Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA.
