Lois Mather O’Brien, 84 years, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday morning, August 11, 2006 at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.

She was born September 21, 1921 in Jerseyville, IL;the daughter of John E. And Ruth Ann Gross Maguire. She married Elsmore Benjamin “Ben” Mather on September 7, 1947 in Franklin, IL and he preceded in death on July 27, 1988. She later married William “Bill” O’Brien on August 26, 1989 in Springfield, IL and he preceded in death on May 7, 1998.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Gaudio (companion, Steve Joy) of rural Jacksonville; two step daughters, Dawn Johnson (husband, Ernest) of Phoenix, AZ and Karen Selway (husband, Maurice) of Springfield; seven step grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Paton of Florida; two brothers, Roy Maguire (wife, Cookie) of Alabama and Gene Maguire (wife, Sally) of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Mather Gilliland; a step son, Larry Mather; and two brothers, John Maguire (surviving wife, Jean of Florida) and Leo Maguire.

Mrs. O’Brien was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and Brown’s Business College. She was employed at NESCO before working several years in food service with Jacksonville School District #117. She was a member of Lynnville United Methodist Church and the church’s United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Morgan County Home Extension and Explorers Bible Study. She enjoyed gardening and farming.
