Lois Mary (Ritzman) Marcum, age 91 of Freeport, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Parkview Home in Freeport. She was born on March 18, 1927, the twin daughter of Clifton and Esther (Rohde) Ritzman. Her twin brother died on March 19, 1927.
Lois married Bruce Marcum on Oct. 16, 1952 at the Lena Methodist Church; he died on Oct. 1, 1956. She was preceded in death by both parents.
Lois graduated from Winslow High School in 1945. She attended Rockford College, Northern IL College, Platteville College and graduated from Pestalozzi Teachers College in Evanston.
She taught school for 35 ½ years, 10 years in rural schools in the Winslow and Lena areas. The past 25 ½ years she taught Social Studies and Art at Pecatonica Schools.
Lois traveled around the world for a college course. She was in every state and in every “State Capitol” of the USA. After retirement she lived the winter months in Florida. She loved to travel and designed several of her motor homes.
In 1997, she spent her winter months in Tucson, AZ at Western Way RV Resort. She designed the park model home she lived in. Lois loved painting on lamp shades, clothes, shoes, and purses. She enjoyed life and never has idleness in her life.
Lois was a member of the Gallery 13, Civic Garden Club, Prairie Land Doll Club, Home Extension and the Red Hat Club in Tucson. Parkview had been her home since 2001.
