Lois Marjorie Kleen age 88 of Dayton, OH, formerly of Bruning, NE passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 after a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on May 30, 1922 in Shickley, Nebraska to Rudolph and Emma (Strumpler) Bartels.
She married Melvin Henry Kleen of Bruning, Nebraska on July 4, 1941 after graduating from high school in Bruning. She spent her life as a housewife raising four children in various towns in Nebraska, Laurel, Maryland and Richmond, Indiana. She was active in choirs, church women’s groups and as a Sunday School teacher wherever she lived. She had a great abiding faith in God and served the Lord through her work in the Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on January 18, 2001 and great-grandson James Kleen, one sister Betty Holtzen, and one brother Donald Bartels.
She is survived by three sons, Vernon Kleen and his wife Betty of Springfield, Illinois, Stanley Kleen of Dayton, Ohio and Clinton Kleen and his wife Linda of Dallas, Texas, a daughter, Alvita Johnson of Little Falls, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, David Kleen, Jennifer Kleen, Shannon Rose, Christa Johnson, Heidi Gough, Joshua Kleen, Matthew Kleen, Emily Closson and Jason Redder. She was also blessed to have 15 great-grandchildren, one sister Audrey Lawless of Wichita, KS.
