Lois Kathryn Martin, 91, of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2020. Lois was born March 10, 1928 in Pemberville, Ohio. Her parents were John Frederick Gockerman and Emma Carolina Dierksheide Gockerman.
Lois married Dwight Edwin Martin on October 29, 1950 in Pemberville, Ohio. They had been classmates since grade school. In 1963 Lois and Dwight made their way from Ohio to Miami, Florida where their two children were born and raised.
Lois is survived by her two children, Elaine Martin Stark (Jim) and David Joel Martin (Luise), seven grandchildren, Tyler Dwight Martin, Nicholas Turner Martin, Jenna Stark Fowlkes (Thomas), Andrew Stark (Lizzy), Will Stark, Anna Kathryn Stark and John Stark, and three great-grandchildren, Caroline Fowlkes, Clara Fowlkes and James Fowlkes. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Dwight Martin, and her three sisters, Marilyn Gockerman Conaghan, JoAnn Gockerman Haar and Ruth Gockerman Busch. Together the four sisters were known as the Gockerman Girls.
Lois graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio around 1948 and worked as a nurse until she and Dwight left Ohio for Florida in 1963.
Lois’ greatest love was the Lord and her faith was mighty.
Lois was a member of Cocoa Beach Elks Lodge 2387. She also enjoyed socializing with her dear friends from the Four Seasons Condominium.
Lois was always warm, positive and engaging – she lifted everyone’s spirits when she walked in to a room. She was a loyal friend and she was especially tender to children. She was the best grandma, ever!
