Lois Jean Gray, 89 of Timberon, New Mexico went to her heavenly home on May 19, 2023, surrounded by family in the home of her daughter, Connie DeCristo in Wolfforth, TX.
Lois Jean Whitefield was born on June 2, 1933, in Iraan, TX to Carlos and Bessie Whitefield. She was raised in Iraan along with 8 siblings making many lifelong friends there who are like family. She graduated from Iraan High School in 1950 and was a twirler for the Iraan Marching Band and participated in sports and various clubs. She also was crowned Miss Alfalfa in an area beauty pageant. Jean did secretarial and administrative assistant work at Standard Oil Company and the Iraan and Artesia school systems.
After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Therman Gray. They shared 64 beautiful and adventurous years together and were blessed with 4 children, Sharon, Marilyn, Mike, and Connie. The family enjoyed residence in Ft. Stockton and Iraan, Texas, Artesia, New Mexico and then to Momma’s dream “House on the Hill” in the beautiful mountains of Timberon, NM.
Jean saw beauty in everything and had the talent and creativity to capture it in so many beautiful ways. From her incredible photography to her pottery and jewelry, she shared and gifted her beautiful works of art with countless people all across the land. After retirement, she and Therman headed “North to Alaska” in their first beloved RV. They loved the beauty, the adventure, and countless people they met covering almost every state north, south, east, and west. There are many volumes of picture albums that captured it all through Jean’s eyes. She named her photography business Scenes by Jean and referenced them all as God’s Art. The Lord and the love of Jesus was the foundation of her heart and soul beginning to end. She showered love on any and everyone she met. Her work on earth is complete. Her crown was earned long long ago, but we were all blessed to be with her to bear witness to absolute grace, purest love, compassion, and kindness. Just as many live their lives with “What Would Jesus Do”, the same could be true with our family “What Would Momma/MeeMaw Do” as she reflected His Love all the days of her life.
Jean is survived by her four children, Sharon Ferguson, Marilyn Todd and husband Tommy, Mike Gray and wife Donna, and Connie DeCristo; grandchildren, Mike and Shannon Ferguson, Chris Donaghey and wife Candace, Robert Donaghey and wife Kristie, Heather Sprunck and husband Mike, Bryan Gray and wife Laura, Kristen Moore, Grady Spencer and wife Kaci, Cody Spencer, and Kaylee Johnston and husband Derek; 16 great grandchildren and one on the way.
