Mrs. Lois J. (Walgenbach) Narog, 76, of LaSalle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at The Abington of Glenview.

Lois was born on April 9, 1936 in Peru to J. Clarence “Happy” and Ethel (Morrow) Walgenbach. She married Joseph Narog on February 10, 1961 at the First Congregational Church of Peru. Lois grew up and lived with her family in Peru and retired with her husband to their country home in LaSalle in 1990. Lois has many friends from her days as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and at several area nursing homes. She also worked as a nurse in Santa Monica, California early in her career.

She was a volunteer at the Illinois Valley Red Cross and at her church, The First Congregational Church in Peru. She was also a member of the Illinois Valley Herb Guild and loved to garden and cook for her family. Lois is best remembered for her artwork and she was proud to be named as an Illinois State Artisan. Her scratch-carved eggs and scrimshaw powder horns were in museums and shops throughout Illinois and the country. She displayed her artwork every fall at The Sandwich Fair for over 20 years. Although the pulmonary fibrosis she suffered from the last two years slowed her down, it did not stop her from continuing her work as an artist and from enjoying time with her family.

Lois is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Joseph; her daughter, Jennifer (Matthew) Sucher; three grandsons, Jacob, Evan and David Sucher and her devoted dog, Lucy. Pallbearers will be Jacob Sucher, Evan Sucher, David Sucher, Dale Tieman, Don Wlodarchak and Nathan Wlodarchak. Memorials donations may be directed to Illinois Valley Red Cross or Illinois Valley Animal Rescue
