Lois Elizabeth Hopkins Houser, 78, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022.
She was born the daughter of William M. and Zelma (Smith) Hopkins on February 25, 1943, in rural Davis County. She was educated in the Black Hawk rural school in Davis County and graduated from Moulton Community Schools in 1961. She attended Indiana University of South Bend and was 3 credits shy of her bachelor’s degree.
Lois was united in marriage to Donald Vance Houser, Jr. in Unionville, Iowa on August 12, 1961.
Lois is survived by a daughter, Julie and her husband Joseph of DeForest, Wisconsin; a son, Christopher Houser of New Carlisle, Indiana; four sisters, Miriam Hougland of Ottumwa, Iowa, Marlene Frich of Morgantown, West Virginia, Patricia Hubbartt of Arroyo Grande, California, and Linda Holm of Humeston, Iowa; five grandchildren, Samantha and William Walsh, and Lawton, Hunter, and Haydon Houser.
She was preceded in death by her husband on February 25, 1999; both parents; three siblings in infancy; four brothers, Robert, John, George, and Steven Hopkins; three sisters, Evelyn Scott, Mary Thomas, and Joyce Grosvenor.
Lois loved nature, adventure, and having fun. Some of her favorite moments were spent hunting for morel mushrooms, picking blackberries, looking for arrowheads, and finding the perfect Christmas tree. She was a force to be reckoned with and will be greatly missed.
