Lois D. Shevlin, 94, of Shrewsbury, previously of Tinton Falls, passed away
peacefully on August 26, 2022 at her residence at Brandywine Living at The
Sycamore. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 1, 1928 to the late Bertram
and Elma (McHale) Russell. Lois was predeceased by her sister Maude and brother
Bertram, and her loving husband of 61 years Joseph F. Shevlin, Jr. in May 2021.
Lois and Joe met in Philadelphia on a blind date set up by mutual friends. Not long
after they married on October 17, 1959 they settled in a row house on Sherbrook
Boulevard in Upper Darby, Pa. Prior to her marriage Lois worked for RCA in
Philadelphia as a bookkeeper for 11 years. Lois had all four of her children in
Upper Darby and eventually the family moved to Beverley, MA for a year and
finally settled at 25 Willshire Drive, Tinton Falls where they resided for over 51
years.
Lois and Joe made some lasting family friendships on Willshire/Wellington Drive
as did their children. The whole neighborhood was like family and we watched out
for one another. Those families included the Max’s, Sullivan’s, Boyle’s, Rigney’s,
Kramer’s, and Klenk’s.
Over the years, Lois was a devoted parishioner of St. Leo the Great Roman
Catholic Church in Lincroft. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, and
was a class/lunch mom while her four children attended St. Leo the Great school.
She volunteered at the Monarch Thrift Shop and Lunch Break in Red Bank for
many years.
