My Journey

Lois Meely Boclear was born on March 21, 1948, in Sawyerville, AL to Frank and Helen Meely who preceded her in death. She was the youngest baby girl. The family relocated to Cleveland, OH when Lois was five years old. They united with the Temple Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late E. W. Ward, Sr., where Lois gave her life to Christ at an early age.

Lois received her formal education in the Cleveland Public School System and graduated from East High School on Friday, June 17, 1966.

Lois met and was married to John Bryant Jr. in 1970 by the late Eugene W. Ward, Sr. at the Temple Baptist Church, 7500 Cedar Avenue, Cleveland, OH.

Lois later met and married Bibby Boclear, Jr. on May 20, 1994 in Cleveland, OH. In that union, she became a bonus mother to Bibby Boclear, III and Aishah J. Boclear. Lois was a bonus grandmother to Connor, Bibby, IV, Carson, Michael, Amore Rae, and Secret Serenity. Lois and Bibby, Jr., always wanted to be entrepreneurs. So after her retirement, they opened a hair salon on Van Aken Boulevard. In the years to follow, Lois became her husband’s caregiver until her health failed and she could no longer care for him.

Lois served in the following positions of the Temple Baptist Church Youth Department, under the Youth Director leadership of Josephine Ward: Young People’s Choir, Usher Board, and Girls Auxiliary. She also served as a Teacher of Weekday and Vacation Bible Schools, under the leadership of Ethel Barros.

Other ministries in which Lois was a part of were: Hour Of Consolation Choir, Teacher of Adult Sunday School, member of the Marriage Ministry (along with her husband Bibby Boclear, Jr.), Deaconess, and Mission Ministry.

Under the leadership of the late Rev. A. E. Campbell, Jr., a new ministry was birthed, the “Christian Board of Education”. Lois was appointed Director of this ministry, which continued under the leadership of Pastor Sedric D. Veal, Sr.

She was a huge basketball fan to several teams, especially the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lois was also a great supporter of her nephews at their basketball games. She loved to travel, take family photos and make 25 lbs.

Lois had a very deep love for her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Her favorite song to sing, with everybody joining in, at the family reunions was “Mary Had a Little Lamb”.

Lois departed this life suddenly on Friday, December 30, 2022. She will forever be in the hearts of those who loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one bonus son: Bibby Boclear, III; one bonus daughter: Aishah J. Boclear; six bonus grandchildren: Connor, Bibby, IV, Carson, Michael, Amore Rae, and Secret Serenity; four brothers: Frank Meely, Gambrills, MD, Pastor Frank Stiff (Joann), Demopolis, AL and Robert Stiff (Vera), Birmingham, AL; one sister Sarah Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends, as well as her Temple Baptist Church family.

Lois is now reunited with her husband: Bibby, Jr.; siblings: Annie Mae (Elliott), Ida Mae, Harold, Ulysses, Dora, Alean, Ruby Lee Jenkins, Katie Tarrance, and Charlie Payne.
