Lois Augusta Davis went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 19, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer. Her family was at her side to see her into her heavenly reward.
Lois was born on August 22, 1936 to the late Henry and Olga (Reichard) Kassner. She attended Zion Lutheran School and T.L. Handy High School in Bay City, Michigan. Lois earned a degree in elementary education from Bay City Junior College and went on to teach at Forest School in Bay County.
Lois married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Davis, on June 7, 1957. Lois and Bill relocated with their four children to Kalamazoo in 1965. After being a stay-at-home mom for 23 years, Lois resumed a career outside the home as a real estate secretary for 7 years and then an administrative assistant at The Upjohn Company for 17 years. Lois enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, playing cards and watching the hummers from her back porch.
Lois was a dedicated mother, serious baseball fan and talented seamstress. During her years as a little-league mother to two baseball-playing sons, Lois was a meticulous scorekeeper and enthusiastic cheerer. One Christmas she sewed a beautiful collection of doll clothes for each of her young daughters, working into the wee hours to keep the Christmas secret. Her family was blessed by her love, prayers, listening ear and selfless spirit.

She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life… Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:10-12, 30-31.
Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lawrence and her nephews Allen and Robbie Young. Lois is survived by her husband, William A. Davis; her four children, David (Shari) Davis of Kalamazoo, Susan (Joe) Crookston of Kalamazoo, Karen (Mark) Van Dalen of Plainwell and James (Mary) Davis of Big Rapids; and her six grandchildren: Alyssa (Joel) Pease and Mallory Davis (daughters of David and Shari); and Hannah Davis (fiancé Luke), Levi Davis, Ethan Davis and Leah Davis (children of James and Mary).
Lois will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Through our faith in Jesus Christ and the promises of His Word we have hope and confidence that we will be together again.
